Intro:
The northwest barony of the kingdom is FYD. An area of wide forests and tall
mountains. Grugach dwell here; they do not tolerate humans, nor do the scattered
tribes of goblins and kobolds. Fyd´s forests harbor a number of outlaws.
Also in the mountains are three families of evil dragons (black, red and green)
known as the Fiends, who raid civilized lands on numerous occasions. Fyd´s
baron is Dalon, a quiet, conservative man.

| c.20 | The dwarven city of Reggis is founded on the Regilian River's delta around Quartzstaacht. The dwarves' quickly unify the entire Regilian and Tharn River valley's under one Theign. (Quartzstaacht is a group of standing stones that resemble stonehenge but are made out of rose-colored quartz.) |
| 175 | Theign Ironfist begins a great expansion of the lands of the dwarven Kingdom of Fyard, subjugating many human lands. His kingdom's borders expand southward to touch the northern edge of the Kingdom of Istur within 30 years. |
| 225 | A highly outnumbered Fyardian army overwhelms an Isturian border fortification marking the beginning of the Dwarven War. |
| 868 | The Barony of Fyd is established through treaty with the dwarven theign. This is in part forced by the increasing human population of Fyard and in particular, Reggis. One of the clauses states that a dwarf will always be the Theign (Duke) of Reggis and the dwarven people will be semiautonomous. |
| 875 | With the aid of dwarven siege engines, the Hurvans recapture Ft. Kalohar. By the end of the War of Annexation, the Harati would once again be driven back across the Hurvatian Isthmus. |
Borders:
The Barony of Fyd shall consist of the entirety of the eternal Palim Mountains
north of the valley known as Déarn's Pass with the exception of those peaks
forming the range known as the Shadowcast Mountains. The coastal boundaries
shall be from a point on the shore at just north of Rodrick's Isle and extending
all the way around the _______ (Cape); and its reaches shall extend eastward,
including the ___ Islands and all of the waters of the Firth of Beckily. The
border shall then head inland and cross the Sunbolode River at Ellem's Ford.
From there it will trace a path of the highest ground till once again reaching
the Palim mountains.
General
Feel of Placenames:
Many Dwarvish names, especially in the mountainous regions and the area around
city of Reggis. Dwarvish names can sound very harsh at times. Many settlements
and features are referred to by the human translation of the Dwarven. As dwarves
tend to be a straightforward lot, this lends itself to some very simple names.
There are pocket of gnomes and halflings scattered throughout parts of Fyd,
particularly in the certain valleys amongst the Palims and even some among the
rolling hills of the coast. Halfling names tend to be even worse than Dwarvish
ones at being terribly unoriginal. The only naming convention that seems to
of halfling origin is -shire, though the gnomes have adopted that settlement-denoting
suffix as well.
Gnomish names always seem to be one of two varieties. The less common are those
involving small woodland creatures. The more common (unfortunately so for the
poor scribes and cartographers) are those of the multisyllabic tongue-twister
variety. Many cartographers have taken to the convention of limiting these to
four or five syllables, either by chopping off the rest or condensing them into
something more elegant.
The humans that originally settled this region came from a variety of small
clans and tribes whose origins are lost to the sands of time. Throughout recorded
history and even to this day, the wilds of Fyd have been the perfect place for
those running from something — be it a crime or oppression or debt. There
tends to be a free-spirited nature to the Fyrdur humans, and the straightforwardness
and lack of tact of the demi-humans whom they share these lands with is evident
in them as well.
Other Nomenclature:
Fyd: "Fyrdur". "Fyardian" refers to things of the old dwarvish kingdom of FyardMajor Geographical Features:
Major Rivers:
Regilian River
By the time it reaches the city of Reggis and then the sea, all the various tributaries of the Regilian make it a large river indeed. It's delta is a very important agricultural area for the region.Tharn River
The Tharn is a long, lazy river that measures almost 1,100 miles from it's headwaters to where is joins into the Regilian River. Much of that distance is through the heart of the ever dangerous Bellwood Forest.Squirrel River
The largest single tributary to the Tharn. Named by gnomes, though you'll now find more halfling thorps in the area today.Red River
Red clay and various minerals give this river a rich red color.Trevelinboti River
This short bubbling river is full of rapids and is fed by numerous small streams which channel icy mountain runoff to it. Several tiny gnomish communities dot part of it's banks and they collect steep tolls to cross their bridges from human and halflings.Toodeep River
South to north flowing river that is a tributary of the Regilian. The name is the Common translation of the original Dwarven name and is very apt.Saga River
Flows from the Palims Northwest to ______ BayKachinatalulah River
Another unfortunate gnomish name which translates loosely as, 'spirit of the leaping water'. It flows from the Palims northward to the Firth of Beckily.Gibboney River
It flows for just over 380 miles from the Palims northward to the Firth of Beckily.Black River
Coal and various ores have colored this river a dark slate gray. It flows from the Palims northward to the Firth of Beckily.Sunbolode River
Olde Common for 'Sunube's Blood' The mountain clay has tinged this river a deep blood red. It winds its way almost 1,500 miles from the Palims to the city of Tonn.Palim Mountains
The following are regions or features within the Palims:Turquoise Towers
These steep mountains are covered with blue spruce and other similarly colored flora.Palmer Range
Firestorm Peak
Located in the extreme southeast corner of the barony, this mountain erupts in an awe-inspiring display once every 27 years. The last time this phenomena began on The Festival of Fools in the spring of HY 1091. It ended as predicted 28 days later, on 11 Jvelton. What wasn't predicted was the huge explosion and earthquake that rocked the country side before the spectacle ended.Ahanamelkadoodum (aka the Hamelkan Rift)
Gnomish for “My, it’s a long way down there", no one really knows just how deep this crevasse is. Divinations have warned of great dangers in its depths.Mud Lake
The largest and westernmost of the three major lakes found within the Palims. Large aquatic lizards (cryptoclidus) are known to feed on the numerous fish species that live in the deep murky waters.Lake Tisseewoonatis
This picturesque lake's name means "she who bathes with her knees" in gnomish. Why gnomes would name such a beautiful, blue lake such a silly name says a lot about gnomes. The many failed gnomish submersibles that could be found at the bottom of this lake says a lot about them too.Cynara’s Sorrow
The easternmost of the three major lakes within the Palim's, this lake's surface tends to be covered in a faint mist. The wind blowing through the surrounding beech trees produces a haunting sound. Often it will rain, only on the lake, not on the surrounding shores.______ (crater)
______ (hills)
the foothills north and another group to the east of Reggis______ (anything else that the dwarves would name - they probably named every rock!)
______ (cape & 2 small islands)
______ (chain of islands in the north)
between the Firth of Beckily and the ______ Sea______ (3 islands off the coast near Reggis)
______ (numerous bays & inlets)
Firth of Beckily
The water off the coast off the northern coast which is protected by the ______ Islands.Bellwood Forest
The dense forests of western Fyd are famous for their bronzewood trees but all manner of flora and fauna can be found within it's borders. There are too many dangerous creatures lurking in these woods for their to be any sotable settlements.______
the lightly wooded area to the south of the major forest (the part near Reggis).______
the forest(s) of north of the Palim Mountains.______
The rolling hills of the coastal region; perhaps several named areas.______
The lowlands & farming region outside of Reggis
Named Cities, towns & villages:
Reggis (M)Widely scattered, very small settlements will be found throughout much of the coastal regions. Scattered gnomish & halfling settlements will be found there also, as they will be in a few of the Palim's many valleys. Dwarven settlement locations around the Regilian area will be known, but much of that area is farmed by humans. The exact locations of dwarven settlements in the Palim Mountains themselves may not be known at all.
Longbridge (H)
The annual Fire Festival attacts hundreds from the surrounding countyside. Once every 27 years, a nearby mountain, Firestorm Peak, is engulfed in magical flames. There is a small shrine to Azkal there. The Duchy of ______
