Hurvan Nomenclature
or,...what do I call that?

People and things from a particular area:

Many of these refer to anything from a particular place. Others, where noted, refer to only people or certain styles of craftmanship, wines, cheeses, architecture, etc. Where two or more are listed, the most proper or accepted are listed first.

Countries
Hurva: "Hurvan"
Harat: "Hararti". Someone of pure blood is sometimes referred to as "Haratese".

Baronies
Durid: "Duridian". "Durish" refers to the barbarian tribe known as the Durs who conquered and settled these lands.
Fyd: "Fyrdur". "Fyardian" refers to things of the old dwarvish kingdom of Fyard
Gessel: "Gesh". Sometimes "Geshman" will refer to an individual (pl. "Geshmen"). Gessian is a derogartory term.
Suress: "Suressian". Some humans have chosen to attempt to even further distance themselves from the elven roots of the region, thus the term "Surian" used in contexts such as "Surian Leather" and "Surian Cheese". "Suresanti" only refers to the elves and things elven from the region.
Tolon: "Tolonian"
Valsar: "Valsarian". The Harati still call people from this area "GennGarrites".

Duchies / Cities
Dalwa: "Dalwan"
Ft. Kalohar: "Kalorian"
Geston: "Gestonian"
Istur: "Isturian"
Palk: Palkan
Reggis: "Regilian"
Tonn: "Tonnannite". "Tonn" is reserved for finely crafted goods, such as "Tonn Sherry". "Tonner" is a derogartory term that usually implies snobbery.

Real World Things:
German Shepherd: "Hurvan Shepherd"
German Chocolate: "Hurvan Chocolate"
Spanish Moss: "Swamp Moss"
Swiss Cheese: "Gnome Cheese" - How do they get those holes in there!?


Religion / Clerics

Any cleric may be properly introduced or referered to by saying whom them have dedicated theirs lives to. For example, "Donar of Torodin" or "Fr. Owen Wayfinder of Estereal". See the Clerics of the Major Dieties section for some specific details on formal titles. It is safe to address most male priests as "Fr. _______", although, the address, "Mother ________", tends to be reserved for everyday use when addressing a female cleric of Wajen. "Brother ________" or "Sister _________" are both usually acceptable in every day conversation with most clergy.

Athelstan: "Athelstanean"
Azkal: "Azkalite"
Estereal: "Esterealean". However, the less proper "Esterealite" has come into common usage.
Jvelto: "Jveltoan"
Othniel: "Othilite"
Soltana: Soltanite"
Torodin: "Torodinite". "Torite" is an older variation that has been abandoned since the witchhunts of HY 199.
Wajen: "Wajéan"

Orc: "Orcish"
Elf: "Elven"
