Stuff Wizards Need To Know...
Learning &
Memorizing Spells
- It takes 10 minutes per spell slot level to memorize spells. The caster must be well rested (6 Hours of sleep to memorize 1/2 level; 8 hours for 3+ level). It takes no time to memorize cantrips (can cast 4/day/caster´s level, +1 for each spell slot used).
- Specialists memorize spells in their selected school at 5 minutes per level and other spells at 15 minutes per level. (Take average)
- Signature spells are always known and just require a quick glance to memorize (negligible time, about one round for the bonus slot of the signature spell)
- Wizards with the trait, Precise Memory, can make a Int/Knowledge check to halve the time it takes to memorize all spells for that day.
- Wizards with the NWP, Thaumaturgy, can make a proficiency check to halve the memorization time of a number of spell slots equal to their level each day. Yes, this is cumulative with Precise Memory.
- All spellcasters can cast any spell known if they have a spell slot available of the appropriate level. Additionally, a higher level slot can be used to cast a lower level spell. For example, a 5th level vanilla wizard can cast 1 3rd, 2 2nd, 4 1st level spells each day. The wizard could choose to cast up to 7 1st level spells. The choice is made at the time of casting, hence memorization time cannot be reduced (insert mumbo-jumbo of mental and mystical energies here).
