House Rules

Misc. House Rules

Initiative

Make sure to add your weapon speed, casting time or any other appropriate modifiers to your initiative roll.

Sometimes to speed up combat I´ll start a countdown, "5..4..3...". If I reach zero, your character is considered to be too indecisive to act that round, but will automatically win initiative for the next.

Death´s Door Rules

A PC loses consciousness at 0 hp.

A PC dies when they reach -X; where X=PC´s Con/Health.

Until wounds are bound, a character at -hp will lose 1 hp/round.

Until attended to by a trained medical person, or healed by magical means, a PC will continue to lose 1hp/day.

If reduced to 0 hp, all spell slots/PSPs are lost.

Magical healing will let a PC function fairly normally, but until they get a good night´s sleep, all stats are reduced by 5. Healing spells can also be used to raise stats on a point-for-point basis.

A PC who dies and is later raised may receive penalties to experience points for that adventure.

Encumbrance - I make people figure out encumbrance in detail for new characters (and after major changes to a characters stats/equip)- after that we have a nice ballpark and can use common sense.

Saving Throws

All mortals fail their saving throws on rolls of a natural 3 or less.

Characters may have bonuses which adjust their saves below 3; these bonuses only can cancel negative modifiers to the save; rolls of 3 or less still fail.

Miniatures

There are two times when I employ the "Where ever thy fig is, there shall your character be also" rule. Basically, this means that each player is responsible for the placement of their fig, and just stating out loud where your character is isn´t enough.

#1 - Whenever I ask for the figs to be arranged in marching order.

#2 - During those times, combat or otherwise, when we´re using the battlemat to help depict the surroundings.

Grandfather Clause

Any changes to the house rules that effect your character directly (such as changes in how the character would have been created or updated spell lists) can either be incorporated into your character or not - the choice is yours. Any changes to the house rules that effect everyone (such as combat rules) have to be adopted by all.
Misc.Misc
--The world that Hurvans live in has no Lycanthropes or Undead (except for simple skeletons and zombies which have been animated by someone) and therefore no knowledge or spells relating to or inspired by these types of creatures.

--Be scared of crossbows - hand crossbows do d4, light crossbows do d10 and heavy crossbows do d12. Light and heavy flavors keep rolling up the damage if they do max. I also give 0-level folk bonuses to hit with crossbows due to the ease of use.

Possibly coming soon (new or clarified rules concerning)
Arrows
Peppering an area with lots of arrows

Impact of being a pincushion

Projectile removal

Slitting throats
A fair way to have PCs with lots of hit points be scared of having a knife held at their throat.
