Russell Weatherbird
The crazy red-head. This freckle-faced,
adolescent nephew of a local Jveltoan priestess has an enormous nose, expressive
features, and long red hair tied back in a pony tail. Russell is likely to be the
first to greet you. Hey there. I'm Russell. Come on in. Buy fish.
What's your name? Russell then bellows out to the entire fish market,
EVERYBODY, THIS IS (YOUR NAME), AND THEY'RE HERE TO BUY FISH! To
which all of the other employees (hereafter known as the chorus), reply, HELLO,
(YOUR NAME), WELCOME TO WALL-EYE PETE'S!
Returning customers are greeted upon entrance by Russell (who remembers everyone's name) yelling, WELCOME BACK, (YOUR NAME)! The chorus follows with, HELLLLOOOOOOO, (YOUR NAME). Customers who are reluctant or slow to give their name are promptly dubbed with a nickname by Russell. These nicknames are quickly and permanently adopted by the entire gang at Walleye Pete's and can never be shaken, no matter how hard the customer tries.
Ilario
A tall, swarthy, man with a drooping mustache,
dark hair, and a filthy apron. Ilario is one of two workers who puts the fish on display, answers questions, and generally chats with the customers. A true ladies' man, he always flirts with the women, and will often snag the pretty ones to try their hand at fish catching (see below).
Once a customer makes their selection, Ilario will take the fish, hold it proudly about his head and announce it to the market. (ONE MACKEREL FOR (YOUR NAME).) The chorus will loudly repeat the order, after which Ilario throws the chosen fish over the heads of customers to the fish catcher behind the counter.
Nunzio
Nunzio does what Ilario does. Hey, it takes a couple of strong guys to throw all those fish. Nunzio is a bald, portly man with a round face, one gold earring, and a cheerful disposition. Nunzio is rather nosy, and has a tendency to ask customers all sorts of person questions. (So, what's the salmon for, eh? Special guests? Got a lady coming over? What does she look like? Etc., etc.)
Ice Boy
Ice Boy's real name is Benen, apprenticed to the mage Dorvin of Dorvin's Ice House. He delivers the ice to cool the fish very early in the morning and only stays an hour or so to chat with the guys. He is a lanky teenager with poor vision, whom the chorus always teases, and Nunzio tries to fix him up with the pretty women.
Ettoré
Ettoré (pronounced Et TOR ay) is the star of the show -- the fish catcher. Ettoré works behind the counter and catches the fish (or crabs, or whatever) thrown by Nunzio and Ilario. Ettoré has never dropped a fish, no matter how large the fish or how hard it's thrown. He's proud of his skill and enjoys trying to teach the pretty women to catch fish. (Anyone who wants to try is welcome, but two drops and you're out.) Ettoré is a big, handsome fellow, his olive skin ripped with muscules and his head adorned with perfectly curly black hair. He works bare-chested, which impresses the pretty women, and sports a tattoo of a flying fish on his left shoulder.
Walleye Pete
Pete takes your money while Ettoré bags up your fish. Named for his big, bulging eyes, Pete is a middle-aged, retired sailor with white hair, bad teeth and a cigar always on hand. He likes to chat with the customers and passes out cigars on his birthday. Pete calls everybody Ôfella' or Ôsweetie', depending on gender.
Inky
Inky handles accounting, buying fish from the fishermen, and even transporting fish via distant wizards who arrange to teleport their special orders for the wealthy. Named for the ink stains always on his fingers, Inky's real name is Alonzo. The son of a local madame and a traveling bard, Inky is charming and boyishly good-looking, with blond hair and green eyes. He wanders in and out of the shop on his many errands, chatting with everyone, humming a song, and flirting with the pretty women.
