When the Ebb Tide Temple was constructed centuries ago, it was originally built on a solid foundation which could support the massive pillars of green marble and beautiful stone masonry. Jvelto was exceedingly proud of his new temple, and dedicated much of his time to its perfection.
Azkal was becoming truly irate now. He smacked his immortal brother on the back of the head.
"HEY! Are you listening to me?" the war god demanded.
"Sure, sure: bad weather, good weather. No problem."
Still bristling, Azkal decided that having Jvelto's full attention was a battle
for another day. Jvelto seemed to have gotten the message anyway, so he marched
off to attend to his troops.
He launched his war ships and hoped Jvelto would remember his request, especially since the enemy naval vessels seemed were already patroling their harbor. Eventually, a modest typhoon appeared on the horizon, and Azkal clenched his fists in anticipation of his troops landing on the foreign docks.
Unfortunately, the storm was moving toward the navy Azkal favored, and quickly, too. Before Azkal could even yell Jvelto's name, the typhoon swept his legions overboard and destroyed his ships handily. Naturally, the officers, who wore plate, sank immediately. In fact, not one of the screaming, frantically swimming mortals made it to shore.
"JVELTO!" roared the mighty war god as the last soldier sank. Azkal was frightening even when mildly annoyed. Furious as he was now, he was a terrible sight to behold. He seemed to become a giant wall of fire as he raced toward his brother deity, screaming his name. The war god pushed past the Oceanlord in a rage to engulf the unfinished Ebb Tide Temple in flame. Horrified, Jvelto frantically attempted to douse the inferno with seawater and blow it out with a mighty gale. Eventually, as his fury spent itself, Azkal realized that the temple itself, a structure of stone and marble, wasn't burning and gave up.
Jvelto was sullen. "Why did you have to go and do that? It was almost finished!"
Then he seemed to realize what had transpired, and offered his brother a sincere apology. That, some particularly fine ale, and a few dozen sailors for Azkal's warships seemed to placate the war god, who trudged off without so much as a good-bye. Azkal was still displeased, but he decided to withdraw: too much more commotion would attract Estereal's attention, and Estereal's lectures on the nature of self-control could last for years.
While the two deities had been reconciling, the Ebb Tide was sinking into the sea. Azkal had burned away the nearby trees and grasses. Without them, the wind and the water from Jvelto's attempt to put out the fire had eroded away the temple's foundation. Jvelto carefully raised the structure to the surface of the waters, then commanded the ocean to support the great temple.
As he willed Ebb Tide to become buoyant, the unfinished building began to bob playfully on the waves. The gentle rocking made the temple's smooth stone sparkle, and Jvelto was so pleased that he decided to leave it there, on the sea, rather than bring the temple ashore.
This is why The Ebb Tide Temple and its ancillary buildings miraculously float on the waves in Istur today, where it continues to delight Jvelto with its splendor.
